Garbology: What Can We Learn By Studying Trash?
Instructor: Elizabeth Bollwerk
Have you ever wondered what people 100 years from now will be able to learn about us from the trash we will leave behind? The UW Garbology Project is asking that question and more. Join us for this unique 2-week course that will show you what archaeologists and garbologists learn by studying garbage. Students will learn about strategies humans have developed over time to manage garbage and its impact on the environment. Gain an insider's view into the current issues in local sustainable waste planning! Through hands-on STEM-oriented activities students will get a grip on garbage by using scientific methods to address these issues. A visit to the UW Recycling Center is planned. After this class you will never look at trash the same again!
Meets: M-F, 1-4 p.m., July 21-August 1
Location: UW Seattle campus
Length: Two weeks
